Wolves, a Premier League team, has entered the largest PUBG Mobile competition via their esports branch. Earlier today, the team stated that it has acquired Team SMG’s PEL spot for an unknown fee. Wolves will now compete in the PMGC as part of the agreement.
TEAM SMG LEAVES THE PEL
Team SMG was the first to announce their departure from the Peacekeeper Elite League through the organization’s Weibo account earlier in the day (PEL). The PEL is China’s top level of PUBG Mobile esports. Peacekeeper Elite, on the other hand, is PUBG Mobile’s Chinese variant.
The group did not give a specific explanation for its exit. Team SMG thanked its supporters for their support in a statement, saying that while this was the end of the road for the organisation in Peacekeeper Elite, it will continue to exist in other games.
Wolves Esports has already stepped in to replace Team SMG. Since 2021, the firm has been making significant inroads in China. Last year, it was accepted into the KPL, one of the world’s largest mobile esports championships. It is played alongside Honor of Kings, a game with an estimated 100 million daily users.
The PEL is a highly significant league as well. A $4 million prize money was available during the league’s PEL Summer season before that.
APART FROM THE PEL, WOLVES GET A SPOT IN THE PMGC AS WELL
Team SMG has not had the most success in the PEL. While they have been playing in it since the league’s establishment in 2020, they have not been able to finish in the top ranks. This all changed, however, during the PEL Summer season last year, when they put up a genuinely underdog effort to win the championship. With their victory, they earned more than $1.3 million and beat out teams like the global champions Nova Esports.
As a consequence of their triumph, they have been invited to compete in the PMGC Grand Finals, which will be held in Jakarta from January 6 to 8. Wolves Esports will now be on show in Jakarta, rather than Team SMG. The organisation hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but it’s probable that the same roster will participate.
It will be interesting to watch how they do in the Grand Finals with the backing of a Premier League team. They will, however, have stiff opposition. Nova Esports is aiming for a third consecutive global title, while Stalwart is looking dangerous following a strong group stage performance.
