The Pokémon Company has said now when the new game Pokemon Legends: Z-A is coming. It’s releasing on October 16, 2025, and will be on the current Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2, which supposed to come out around same time. This game looks like it’s gonna be something different, but also with things from old games coming back too.
Lumiose City Again – But Not Exactly Like Before
So Lumiose City is where the whole game happens this time. That’s the city from X and Y, if you remember, but now they doing a “redevelopment” in it. There’s a company in the story called Quasartico Inc. that’s changing things to make the place more peaceful for Pokémon and people together.
The city has more green areas now and also more futuristic style. It still got the Prism Tower in the center, but the rest looks kind of new and updated. So it’s the same place, just very much changed from what it was.

Battle’s Different This Time + Mega Evolutions Come Again
The battle system is not like the turn-based way anymore. Instead, it’s real-time now. That means you and your Pokémon are moving around during battle, not just waiting and choosing from menus. It’s more action and maybe bit faster too.
And yes, Mega Evolutions are back in this one. That’s the thing where Pokémon change form in battle and get stronger for a while. Pokémon like Lucario, Gengar, and Charizard (both forms) can do it. A lot of people liked that before, so it’s good they bring it back.
Who You Start With and The Main Story
You get to choose a starter Pokémon at the start like always, but the three are kind of unusual mix: Chikorita, Totodile, and Tepig. Not from the same gen, so it’s a bit surprising.
The story this time is about rising through something called Pokémon Legends Z-A Royale, which is a battle event where trainers compete to get to Rank A. If you reach that, they say you get a wish granted. What kind of wish, it’s not clear. But also, the Legendary Pokémon Zygarde is involved in the story and watching what’s happening in the city. So probably your choices matter.
Preorders and The Next Big Update
If you want to preorder, digital copies open up on June 5, 2025, which is the same day as the Switch 2 release. Physical versions will be available from July 23, 2025.
Also, they announced a Pokémon Presents stream for July 22, which will show new gameplay, some deeper story stuff, and maybe surprises too. So fans should definitely watch that.
