What Happened in The Group Stages at the PGL Arlington Major 2022?
The 17 teams were divided into two groups, Group A with 9 teams and Group B with 8 teams, and every team played their group mates once. The top 6 teams then progressed to the playoffs.
In Group A, PSG.LGD was on absolute fire! They easily won 7 of their matches and suffered just 1 draw. PSG.LGD really separated itself from its competitors. The only team that pushed them was Soniqs who managed to get a draw. Surprisingly, Soniqs finished last in the group and didn’t record a single win.
The only other team in Group A that showed potential to make a deep playoff run was OG. OG came in 3rd in Group A with a record of 3 wins, 3 draws, and 2 losses. By watching their group matches, you could tell they were warming up and going to peak in the playoffs.
In Group B, no teams established themselves as the dominant squad. Team Aster came first with a 3-4 record while right behind them was Team Spirit with a 3-3-1 record. Judging by their performances in the group stages, we expected both of these teams to challenge PSG.LGD in the finals.
What Happened in Playoffs at the PGL Arlington Major 2022?
PSG.LGD continued its strong form from the group stage into the playoffs. Boom Esports proved no match and lost 0-2 to PSG.LGD. In the second round, OG put up a fight winning a game but once again, PSG.LGD was just too good. In the upper bracket final PSG.LGD completely crushed Team Spirit and booked their spot in the grand final and the chance to win $200,000!
The lower bracket had some super exciting matches, including Team Aster against OG. It was a great back-and-forth match, but eventually, Team Aster prevailed 2-1. The lower bracket final was also an incredible match between Team Aster and Team Spirit. After getting destroyed by PSG.LGD, we thought that Team Spirit would lose to Team Aster. However, Team Spirit looked on fire as they won 2-1.
This set up an epic final and rematch between Team Spirit and PSG.LGD. Amazingly Team Spirit managed to make the right adjustments and ended up crushing PSG.LGD 3-1. It looked like PSG.LGD just couldn’t find their rhythm while Team Spirit’s whole squad was moving as one unit.
The PGL Arlington Major 2022 was an incredibly exciting Dota 2 event! It gave us a glimpse into the form of the top teams as they prepare for The International. Based on the results, we expect
PSG.LGD and Team Spirit to make deep runs at The International, don’t be surprised if Team Spirit wins back-to-back titles!
