Fortnite is officially banned in Indonesia because Epic Games with many other online services have failed to comply with the Indonesian government’s recent restrictive content moderation laws. Indonesia is the second country to ban video games, the first one was China. The Chinese people lost access to their gaming accounts in late 2021.
On contrary, Fortnite can return in Indonesia, as it has not been permanently banned. But first Epic Games have to do some changes in their policy in accordance with the recent restrictive laws.
Laws That Refrained Fortnite In Indonesia
Apart from Epic Games, Indonesia has also restricted tech companies who do not abide by the latest laws of the government from registering under the latest licensing rules. The license gives full authority over the content moderation. It means it has the full right to remove anything that seems disturbing or unlawful. All the local rules are applicable to all domestic and foreign companies.
The ones who have met the certain criteria are functional, but others like Epic Games were unfortunately banned, therefore Fortnite is currently not functional in Indonesia. Earlier, Epic Games were skeptical of not losing its position in Indonesia. But due to the latest government restriction policy, it got banned. Therefore, Epic Games have to amend its policies to make them come back.
Indonesia is the fourth largest country with the largest number of electronic users. It has a population of 225 million with 10 million Fortnite players among them. Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has warned many companies to comply with the latest rules and regulations laid by the government.
Thus, it will be interesting to see how Epic Games will react to this decision. Asia has a large market of people who plays electronic video games, so there are chances that Epic Games will comply with the rules and regulations of the government.
