Battlegrounds Mobile India is also known as BGMI was banned on 29th July 2022 under Section 69A IT Act. The same section ruled PUBG Mobile to get banned. The news was a shocker for the community after the sudden disappearance of the game from the Play Store and App Store. Social media was in a huddle with this news and fear had spread around the community about the ban of the game.
As a BGMI esports athlete, I’m really concerned about the future of this game. I really want the people at Krafton to provide us with any update about this uncertainty. What’s next for all of us is a big question. #bgmi

Krafton’s CFO Bae Dong-Geun spoke out after weeks of silence on the ban and we expect the good news to be around the corner. With loads of rumors going around and the instability of the game, pros are shifting to PUBG New State and other such games.
What Does Krafton’s CFO Have to Say About BGMI Ban?
On Krafton’s quarterly earning call, the CFO said that they respect the Indian government’s concerns. And they are working closely to follow the security protocols provided by the government. Bae Dong-Geun further said:
“We fully respect and understand the Indian government’s concern and as we have been directly running the service based on stringent data security standards and monitoring. We will closely cooperate with the authorities to find ways for the users in India to keep enjoying BGMI. In the second quarter, we broadened the user base through our own and offline collaborations in the local market, and expanded monetized content offerings, providing a battle royale experience unique to BGMI”
This statement was released regarding the security reasons the game was banned. As Section 69A IT Act states, the game was banned because the Indian government had concerns that Krafton was selling the user data to other Chinese companies. This broke the first condition given by the government for the release of BGMI in India. The condition stated that the user data will be highly prioritized and will not be tampered with.

Gaming Companies Come Together With a Mission
Gaming companies around the world such as Outlier Games, Story Pix, Lucid Labs, Roach Interactive, Godspeed Games, Uniplay Digital, and a few more companies came together and wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. The letter had a clear vision of seeking uniform and fair treatment. They also said that India lacks considerably in creating high skilled entrepreneurs. They further wrote:
“While capital and infrastructure are critical to the survival and development of the industry, the leading global video gaming companies with their experience and next-generation technology are needed for establishing a robust gaming eco-system in India.”
We have to watch out for if this letter will backfire on them or if will India welcome more foreign video-game companies to India. This step taken by multiple gaming companies to enter and stay in the Indian market can be revolutionary. And might help grow the gaming culture and eSports scene in India.
When Can We Expect BGMI To Get Unbanned?
While the government’s plans are still unclear and what is going on between Krafton and the Indian Government is unknown. We can only hope the game to be back soon. There is a light of hope with Krafton putting huge efforts towards getting the game unbanned. We believe that the Government has sent out new guidelines to Krafton. The game might get unbanned as soon as they are implemented.
