PUBG Free to Play: After 5 years, Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds or PUBG is finally ready to transition to a free-to-play model from January 12, 2022. Meaning a lot of players who have wanted to play the game for a long, can now do so without spending a buck. South Korean developer Krafton announced the same at The Game awards 2021, but there is a catch. PUBG is considered by many people in the gaming community as the game that set off the global battle royal trend. It practically created a space for all the modern successes like Fortnite, Warzone, Apex Legends, etc. Launched in 2017, the game has reached all the heights of popularity and still hosts around half a million players daily, so it will be really interesting how this number grows in the coming months.

PUBG Free to Play Version: All You Need to Know
The publisher announced the game will be divided into two tiers coming January 12th:
- A basic free to play account
- A Battleground plus account, costing $12.99
All the existing players should not be worried about the Free-to-play transition, as they will have their accounts upgraded to Battleground plus without any additional cost. Additionally, they will receive bonus gifts in the Special Commemorative Pack, which included the premium account and a costume Skin Set (Battle-hardened Legacy Corset, Jacket, Gloves, Pants, and Boots), the Shackle and Shanks Legacy – Pan, and the Nameplate – Battle-hardened Legacy.
PUBG also announced a pre-registration event that allows players to earn in-game rewards just by playing the game. The event is mainly to introduce the players to all the major changes coming to PUBG in 2022. Players can simply register for the event by creating a Krafton ID or signing up on Krafton’s pre-registration website.
What are the benefits of a Battleground plus account?
According to IGN, The full list of Battlegrounds Plus benefits are:
- Bonus 1,300 G-COIN
- Survival Masters XP + 100 percent boost
- Career – Medal tab
- Ranked Mode
- Custom Match functionality
- In-Game items, including the Captain’s Camo set, which includes hat, camo mask, and camo gloves
This means players with PUBG Free to play accounts will be unable to access ranked game mode.
