Xiao, the enigmatic and powerful Anemo polearm user, has captured the hearts of Genshin Impact players since his introduction in the 1.3 update. As a member of the adepti bound by contract to protect Liyue, Xiao specializes in dealing massive damage to multiple enemies with his elemental burst, Bane of All Evil. While this playstyle is inherently risky due to the constant health drain, a well-optimized build can make Xiao an unstoppable force. In the upcoming Genshin Impact 2.7 update, players have the chance to obtain Xiao. Here’s everything you need to know about creating the best Xiao build.

The Optimal DPS Build for Xiao

Xiao’s playstyle revolves around utilizing his elemental burst, Bane of All Evil, to wreak havoc on enemies. To maximize his damage output, you’ll want to spam the plunging attack version of Whirlwind Thrust while Bane of All Evil is active. It’s crucial to execute this attack at the apex of Xiao’s jump since its damage scales with his height. To maintain a continuous assault, pair Xiao with another Anemo character to boost his energy recharge rate, allowing him to use his elemental abilities more frequently.

Weapon Choices

The ideal weapon for Xiao is the Primordial Jade Winged-Spear, a five-star polearm that boasts a high critical rate and provides bonus damage after each hit. Alternatively, the Vortex Vanquisher can be considered, especially if you have a shield character like Zhongli in your party, as it increases shield strength by 20%. Among four-star weapons, Deathmatch is a viable option due to its effect that grants an attack and defence bonus based on the number of enemies Xiao is facing.

Artifacts for Maximum Damage

Xiao’s optimal artefacts include a combination of the two-piece Gladiator’s Finale set and the Viridescent Venerer set. The two-piece Gladiator’s Finale set increases Xiao’s attack by a remarkable 18%, while the Viridescent Venerer set provides a 15% damage bonus to all Anemo attacks. This synergy results in the highest possible damage output when using Bane of All Evil. In terms of specific attributes, focus on increasing Xiao’s crit damage, crit rate, and attack. If you’re not using a second Anemo character, consider boosting his energy recharge rate, as Xiao consumes energy quickly.

Building the Perfect Xiao Team

Xiao’s role in the team is that of a carry DPS who should be active on the field as much as possible. To ensure his effectiveness, it’s important to have ample healing and protective shields in your party. We highly recommend selecting Sucrose to accompany Xiao, as her abilities work perfectly in the healer and battery roles. Alternatively, you can replace Sucrose with Jean or Venti since they are Anemo characters and provide the Impetuous Winds elemental resonance, reducing stamina consumption for all party members by 15%. If you’re running Zhongli, adding Albedo to your team is a wise choice, as his elemental skill generates energy for Xiao, particularly when battling tough enemies.

Xiao’s Abilities and Constellations

Xiao possesses unique abilities and constellations that enhance his capabilities:

Normal Attack – Whirlwind Thrust: Perform up to six consecutive strikes, with charged attacks consuming stamina to deliver an upward thrust. Plunging attacks cause AoE Pyro damage.

Elemental Skill – Lemniscatic Wind Cycling: Xiao lunges forward, dealing AoE Anemo damage to enemies. This skill has two charges and can be used in mid-air.

Elemental Burst – Bane of All Evil: Xiao takes on the form of a powerful Yaksha, increasing his attack range and damage. While active, this ability transforms his damage into Anemo and enhances his jumping ability. However, it continuously drains his health.

Xiao’s constellations include:

  1. Dissolution Eon – Destroyer of Worlds: Increases the charges for Lemniscatic Wind Cycling by one.
  2. Annihilation Eon – Blossom of Kaleidos: Boosts Xiao’s energy recharge rate when he’s not an active character.
  3. Evil Conqueror – Wrath Deity: Raises the level of Lemniscatic Wind Cycling by three.
  4. Transcension – Extinction of Suffering: Grants Xiao a defence bonus when his health drops below 50%.
  5. Evolution Eon – Origin of Ignorance: Increases the level of Bane of All Evil by three.
  6. Evil Conqueror – Vigilant Yaksha: Allows Xiao to gain additional charges of Lemniscatic Wind Cycling and reduces its cooldown when hitting two or more enemies with a charged attack.
