KRAFTON India is now looking forward to growing Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) into something like an official BGMI franchise League model. After holding successful BGIS and BMPS events earlier this year, the game publisher wants to create a more permanent and solid structure for the Indian esports scene. The goal, they said, is to find visionary people or partners who may help make this possible.
Reason Behind New BGMI franchise League Thought
So the thing is, many reasons have led into why this direction is now being considered.
- People’s Interest: They already had conversations with gaming orgs such as S8UL or others about maybe buying franchise spots, which means this is no random idea but something they’re exploring already.
- CEO’s Thought: Sean Sohn, who is KRAFTON India’s CEO, said that franchising is not easy and needs the right timing. He said it should be only done when ecosystem is ready and strong enough.
- Open Format Debate: Karan Pathak, Associate Director, also said that while they believe in open tournaments, this kind of closed league is still not ruled out. It may just not happen right now, but could happen soon.
What This League Could Looks Like
If BGMI goes franchised, it will feel more like cricket IPL system than before.
- Slot Owning: Instead of new teams every time, orgs can buy fixed spots which keeps them steady.
- City-Based Names: Some pro players have already hinted that teams might represent cities or states. It’s not confirmed yet but it sounds like that’s the plan.
- Money and Planning: Big money might come in through brands and ads, making everything more organised.
But also, as Sohn said, most games didn’t succeed with this model forever. So they’re trying to move careful and not jump too fast.

When Will It Happen, Or Not
For now, 2025 first half was all about grassroots stuff like BGIS and BMPS. That ends in July, and later maybe we get updates.
- There’s still planning to do, and some venues have not been finalized yet.
- If the right people and investments show up, then something big may come in the second part of 2025.
Visionary People Needed
KRAFTON is saying they don’t just want esports teams but other kinds of partners, too. Like media houses, content folks or even companies who want to grow with BGMI as a league. They’re looking for vision, not only skill.
Last Say
BGMI is already very popular with crores of users, but to grow the esports side seriously, they are now thinking a long-term league is needed. KRAFTON is not rushing, but this franchise move might be huge if right support comes. Let’s see how things develop in the coming months, specially after July.
