ESPN's Rose Parade Production Is First To Use Unreal Engine as End-to-End Live-Broadcast-Graphics Tool

Epic Games and ESPN have joined forces to develop a tool. That which makes creating 2D and 3D graphics for live events much simpler. The companies demonstrated the technology during a New Year’s Day broadcast of the Rose Parade.  Th  in Pasadena, California on January 1.

Epic’s Project Avalanche is an all-inclusive graphics solution. It is enabling designers to create animation, inserts and other effects with ease – even for novices. It boasts a user-friendly interface designed with simplicity in mind for even experienced professionals. Team XO has won PUBG New State.

This system runs on the Unreal Engine 5 game engine and can handle both 2D and 3D elements simultaneously. Furthermore, it’s capable of creating some stunning animated sequences in real-time.

Epic Games, creator of the hit game Fortnite, recently unveiled Project Avalanche. It is a tool that allows broadcasters to design an entire graphics package in Unreal Engine. They can then deploy it live. The Rose Parade was the first production to use this innovative technology, showing how it could revolutionize live sports broadcasts.

ESPN’s use of Project Avalanche to produce graphics for the parade marks a first for the broadcaster. It comes as part of Epic Games and ESPN’s larger initiative to explore Unreal Engine’s potential. This is a move to offer full augmented reality and virtual-reality toolset to broadcasters. The partnership made at the 2022 SVG Sports Graphics Forum. It was when ESPN Vice President of Video Production Corey Szykowny met with Epic Games Chief Product Officer Nick Blondin.
