Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer survival horror game. Inspired by slasher/horror films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Evil Dead. But also by newer horror franchises like Saw, Silent Hill and Stranger Things. It is developed and published by Behaviour Interactive.

Dead by Daylight – Gameplay: 

It is an asymmetric game in which one player dons the role of a killer while the other four fill out the shoes of survivors. The objective of the killer is to catch and impale the survivors. In a sort of ritual sacrifice to a supernatural force known as the Entity. Likewise, the goal of the survivors is simple; avoid being caught and use toolboxes to fix 5 out of 7 generators, thus unlocking the exit gates.

Once the last survivor is left standing, an escape hatch opens up. The killer can then proceed to close the hatch while a gate opens. And an ‘Endgame Collapse‘ countdown timer begins. Leaving only 2 minutes for the players to escape. The killer can grab survivors in one move by catching them off guard. Or by striking them once with a weapon, thus injuring them. Or twice, to finish them off entirely.

The players have two chances to survive being impaled on hooks. Firstly they can be rescued by fellow survivors. Alternatively, they can perform skill checks. Failing to do so by the third attempt results in death.

While the killer can move faster than the survivors, his other movements such as vaulting over obstacles are slower. Obstacles can also be thrown in the killer’s path which they cannot jump over. They must either go around it or destroy it. An aura-reading ability allows the killers to scan and reveal the locations of hooks, generators and sometimes survivors.

 Powers:

Each enemy in Dead by Daylight has their own unique abilities. The Wraith’s is invisibility and fast movement. The hillbilly’s is the ability to dash around the map and mow down survivors with a chainsaw. Further, several abilities are available via add-ons. The Survivors are given several tools to avoid being caught. Such as the ability to ransack chests for flashlights, maps, toolboxes, med-kits and keys. When the killer is in range(terror radius), the players will hear a heartbeat which gets louder the closer they get in proximity.

To sight them around corners, the killers are given a red light(or stain). Which issues forth from the heads, depending on which direction they’re faced. Unfortunately for the players, some killers have the added ability to cloak and conceal their terror radius and red lights. Taking them by surprise.

Dead by Daylight – Crossover:

Dead by Daylight has previously seen a Resident Evil Crossover in the form of Jill Valentine, Leon S Kennedy, Chris and Claire Redfield. Now another crossover is imminent. By the looks of it, Albert Wesker, Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers are headed for the game. DBDLeaks has shared assets such as icons, charms, outfits, dialogue lines and character bios.

Albert Wesker, a foe in the Resident Evil Series, will be available to play as a killer. While Ada and Rebecca are survivors. As long as he’s carrying a survivor, Wesker can see the auras of other players, through Awakened Awareness. Vault faster with superior Anatomy. And terminus, which will leave the survivor in a permanently broken state once the exit gates are opened.

It’s not much, but you can further whet your appetite. By having a listen to Wesker’s audio files. Exercise your discretion though, as the developers haven’t confirmed the leaks yet. For the moment all we know is that internally it is named ‘Project W’. As for the credibility foes, this one could turn out to be legit. DBDLeaks has also reported on a Stranger Things crossover. Which has already previously happened.
