Riot Games’ first qualifier of 2022 – Stage 1 of Valorant Champions Tour North America Challengers – kicked off on 27th January. The introduction of the new patch 4.0 at the start of the year brought fresh changes. The major difference was the debut of the newest agent in the e-sports scene – Neon, with an electrifying pace from the Philippines.
Valorant Champions Tour North America 2022- Format:
This year’s Valorant Champions Tour North America 2022 Challenger’s format was created to cater to the highly competitive nature of the region. It features two separate Open Qualifiers – each consisting of 128 teams. They will compete in the upper and lower brackets. Then, 4 teams from each Open Qualifier will move on to the Group Stage for the Main Event.
There, they will be joined by Sentinels, Cloud 9, ENVY, and 100 Thieves – who all received direct invitations to the Group Stage based on their circuit points and dominant performances last season.
The first Open Qualifier has already come to a conclusion. After battling it out against a large number of teams, the 4 that fought their way to the top and are moving on to the Group Stage include Version 1, XSET, The Guard, and NRG Esports. It was incredible to watch the underdog rosters overcome the odds. With new additions, they cemented their place at the next stage.
The second Open Qualifier began on 4th February – and the competition will be even more intense.
With huge names in e-sports like TSM, GenG, FaZe Clan, and more, all looking to secure a place in the last 4 spots, it’s going to be extremely close. T1 will also be back for the second qualifier after their disqualification in the first one – hoping for a chance at redemption.
Some of NA’s greatest talents along with relatively unproven players will be facing off against each other. TSM’s Matthew ‘Wardell’ Yu, is widely considered the region’s best OP-er alongside fresh blood like FaZe’s Christopher. ‘LarryBanks’ Doyi, who’s only 16 years old are just a few names to watch out for this weekend.
