Counter-Strike has tried quite a lot of versions of the max rounds setups used in competitions throughout the title’s history. The competitive formats have used MR9, MR12, MR15, and many other unusual formats for that matter. In this article, you will get to know about what is MR12 in CSGO.
What is MR12 in CSGO?
If fans have ever watched competitive CSGO and heard the terms MR15 or MR12, they might not know what it stands for. MR stands for “max rounds,” or the total number of rounds a team can play on one side of the map. CSGO typically uses MR15, where each team plays fifteen rounds maximum on both sides.
Well, MR12 means each team plays 12 rounds maximum on both sides. If both teams won all 12 rounds on one side but lost all 12 in the second half. Then the game’s score would be 12-12 and it will go into overtime.
Moreover, MR12 used to be a legacy in competitive Counter-Strike. With the development of economic changes, structural changes, and other phenomenon changes related to Counter-Strike, MR15 became a much more suitable format and MR12.
- MR12 – Mid
- Rounds per half – 11
- Rounds to win – 12
- Roundtime – 1.75 (1:45 mins)
- Freeze time – 15 sec
- Starting money – 8000
As we all know, Counter-Strike has always had a knack for competitive FPS titles since its inception over 20 years ago. However, games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, Rainbow Six, Call of Duty, and others have gathered themselves more and more popularity into the casual and competitive FPS scene.
The Shortfall of MR-12
Since there are lots of lacking points around the MR12 format and whether it can be a viable format. Below are the reasons why MR12 is not the best format:
Dependency on the Pistol Round :
Additionally, one of the important reasons behind the MR12 format not used in competitions is the importance of pistol rounds. Because of the economic structure, a pistol round win will guarantee 3 rounds more times than not. Therefore, combining it with a win on the first complete buy round for the losing side. It would make way for a 5-0 lead on either half, which would be an advantage. And that is hard to overturn, especially in the MR12 format.
